œOverdose is a series of projections of or relating to Spain & Latin America. “Overdose” draws from the parallel of these two countries interweaving three different perspectives from artists residing in Spain or Los Angeles. In El Reporte Femenil (The Female Report) Carolyn Castaño and Gary Daughin examine how the media interprets the effects of the narco trade on women in true Univision style. La Casa Pasjera by Arnulfo Carreño, takes us on a journey through the thick forests of Columbia overlaying a roadhouse through the roads to Medellin, reminding us that the reference point transcends different terrains. In Untitled (Dogs-hole), Alvaro Perdices collaborates with SERVICAN, bringing awareness of medical research of abandoned animals in Spain. Untitled (Dogs-hole) was part of a larger exhibition commissioned by Espai de Art Contmeporani.

In Carolyn Castaño & Gary Daughin’s Female Report, TV newscaster Silviana Godoy reports on the past and current status of women in Latin America. In a long exhaustive monologue intercut with images, Godoy recounts the accomplishments and downfalls of women south of the border.
As if questioning whether feminism did in-fact arrive to Latin America, Andean princesses are matched against historical figures such as Policarpa Salavarrieta, a pre-independence Colombian heroine, Raquel Welch, as a sex symbol cum Venus, to Michele Bachelet ex-president of Chile, a military strategist and epidemiologist. The accomplishments of significant women in Latin America are punctuated with an exploration of the role that women played in the Socialist revolutions of Fidel Castro and Che Guevara, not only as lovers, confidantes, and mothers of their children, but as co-revolutionaries.
The highlights are contrasted with the numbers of women and girls killed in Juarez, Mexico and the current femicides in Guatemala. The relationship between the exportation of roses and beauty queens from Mexico and Colombia, coveted by both Narco™s and American men seeking to find a wife in Latin America.
El Reporte Femenil/ The Female Report is modeled after the most recognized Latina female journalist in the United States, TV news anchor Maria Elena Salinas and popular news shows found on Telemundo & Univision, such as Al Rojo Vivo and Primer Impacto, that use highly stylized and voluptuous models/news readers to report on the day™s events, in a mix of serious reportage and visual titillation.
Carolyn Castaño is a Los Angeles-based artist whose recent body of work explores the role of women in the male dominated culture of narco-trafficking. She is a recipient of the prestigious C.O.L.A Individual Artist Fellowship 2011.
Carolyn™s work was featured in LACMA™s critically acclaimed exhibition, Phantom Sightings: Art After the Chicano Movement, which traveled to the Museo Del Barrio, New York City, Museo de Arte Contemporaneo Rufino Tamayo in Mexico City, Museo Alameda in San Antonio, Texas, The Phoenix Art Museum, and Museo de Arte Zapopan in Guadalajara.
She has been featured in several group shows, LA Now: Emerging Artists, Galerie Dominique Fiat, Paris, Liquid Los Angeles: Contemporary Watercolor Painting in Los Angeles at the Pasadena Museum of California Art, Semi-Precious, The Public Art Fund, New York and International Paper, an exhibition of drawings at the Hammer Museum. Carolyn has had solo exhibitions at Walter Maciel Gallery, Los Angeles, Kontainer Gallery, Los Angeles and Lombard- Freid Fine Art, New York. She is a graduate of the San Francisco Art Institute and UCLA- School of Art and Architecture.
Gary Dauphin is a Los Angeles-based writer and new media manager. He is currently Director of New Media for KCET in Los Angeles, one of the nation™s leading public television stations, and he has written for Bidoun, National Public Radio, Essence, Interview, Lacanian Ink, The Root.com, Vibe magazine, the Village Voice and other publications. Dauphin was born and raised in New York City to Haitian parents and studied film theory at Yale University. He currently resides in Los Angeles™ historic Solano Canyon district.

In the route Medellin_Cartajena (Colombia), a bus makes an unpredictable stop. After a few minutes I decide to draw in the window glass the silhouette of the house that I can see through the window. When the bus continues the journey the house travels with it. It superimposes over the landscape as a frame that allows seeing unexpected realities of the landscape-journey.
La Casa Pasajera breaks the glass with the silhouette of a roadhouse, making way to a landscape in which we can find signs of poverty and survival by the road.
Arnulfo Medina is a Colombian multidisciplinary artist working in sculpture, video and installation. He studied architecture in Colombia and got his MFA in sculpture in Mexico City in 2008. He moved to Spain in 1999 and since then he has been awarded by several institutions, like Valparaiso Foundation in 2002 and Comunidad de Madrid in 2005. In the last 8 years Arnulfo has also shown his work in Colombia, where he has recently participated in the 42nd Salon Nacional de Artistas. For this show he presented a video where he worked with a local community in the Caribbean coast.
In the last few years Arnulfo Medina has been interested in the field of experimental video. He is currently working on several video projects influenced by concepts like territory, landscape and conflict in his hometown in Colombia. He currently lives in Madrid. For more information click here

Narrative: 27 dogs enter and exit a large hole open on an institutional wall.
The project counted with the collaboration of SERVICAN (Non Profit Organization based in Castelló, Spain) devoted to the care and medical resertach of abandoned animals). The video is part of a large exhibition project produced by Alvaro Perdices and commissioned by Espai de Art Contemporani de Castelló and titled NEGATED. Open and NakeD. The production of the video was filmed inside of the Espai de Art Contemporani de Castelló.
Alvaro Perdices, was born in Madrid(Spain) in 1971, where he graduated in Fine Arts from UCM, moved to Los Angeles in 1993 graduatting form UCLA MFA program in 1997. Since then he has produced a body of work that focus on photographic and video practice.
His projects have been developed around events, specific locations and communities in Los Angeles, Spain, Mexico and Algeria. Most of these projects involved direct participation from locals. He had a solo museum exhibtion at EACC as well as solo projects in commercial galleris. He has participated in important international biennials and group exhibitions like: Riga Quadrennial, Merida Biennial or projects at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.
